  1. Carbon dioxide
  2. Carbon monoxide
  3. Nitrogen dioxide
  4. Sulfur dioxide
  5. Methane

Select the correct answer using the code given below.

C.1, 4 and 5 only
B.2, 3 and 4 only
D.1,2, 3, 4 and 5
A.1,2 and 3 only

Correct Answer: Option B

The Air Quality Index (AQI) was launched in 2014 with the motto 'One Number – One Color – One Description' to help the common person understand air quality.

The AQI considers eight major pollutants:

  • Particulate Matter (PM10),
  • Particulate Matter (PM2.5),
  • Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2),
  • Sulphur Dioxide (SO2),
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO),
  • Ozone (O3),
  • Ammonia (NH3),
  • Lead (Pb).

The AQI has six categories: Good, Satisfactory, Moderately Polluted, Poor, Very Poor, and Severe.

Carbon dioxide and methane are not included in the Air Quality Index.

The AQI was developed by the CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) in consultation with IIT-Kanpur and an expert group.

Therefore, only Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, and Sulfur Dioxide are considered.

Hence, option B is correct.
