A Private Member's Bill is introduced by any Member of Parliament (MP) who is not a Minister. A bill introduced by a Minister is known as a Public Bill.

Statement 1 is incorrect: A private member can be either elected or nominated. Statement 2 is incorrect: Several private member bills have been passed since independence.
